WHO WE HAVE BEEN & WHO WE ARE BECOMING.

Ndalama Capital started off as a small transporter moving coal from Elandsfontein mine to Majuba and Kusile power stations. We gradually adapted to not just transporting coal but to facilitating and trading small quantities of coal.

After a while, trading coal we realized that there was a huge risk that we needed to mitigate in order for us to grow our trading business; we needed to control the product we are selling. That is how we started being involved in mining.

We started off doing joint ventures with mining right holders who had not developed their assets and assisted where we could. We participated in these joint ventures as machine suppliers, diesel supplier, financing working capital in exchange for offtake agreements for the coal produced so that we could continue trading.

Eventually we started to invest in mining rights in an attempt to reduce that risk of control to a more acceptable level for the transactions we anticipated we would be entering into.

During the feasibility study to purchase the mining rights in Lephalale we realized a huge gap in the logistics space to transport commodities for mines that were more than 600km from the port. In order to mitigate the risks associated with having an asset so far from the port we then investigated the opportunity to participate in the rail reform strategy proposed by Transnet. With the launch of the execution of said rail reform strategy happening in April 2025, we will be ready to transport our own product to port and in time assist others who are struggling to transport their product as well.
